a sneaky spend… February 21, 2010

This month I have mostly been bemoaning the amount of natural light in which to take photos. I do have things to show you as well!

Yesterday would have been the perfect day for picture taking – bright, crisp and cool, except that yesterday I spent my daylight hours going on a little trip, so you’ll have to make do with windowsill pictures and the greyish light of yet more snow today.

Yesterday I bundled myself into my little red car, and set of down the M1 to visit Heather. We had a lovely time bird and bunny watching over our lunch, and then skipped off to explore the sale at her local quilting shop.

Oh yes, you read that right. ANOTHER craft has wheedled its way into my affections.

Since I found out I am having a girl, my mind has been all spinny with the things I want to make her. And a quilt is most definitely on my list. A unique, haphazard, first-time-quilter type of quilt made with love just for her by her mother.

So we skipped off and rifled through baskets of cut-price fat quarters (and a couple of full price – woops!), and came up with the above bundle. I was quite fussy about the colours and about the patterns, not trying to find the perfect collection, just trying to find the right one. And I found it. Watch this space for my quilting adventures!

Of course, you understand, we were in a FABRIC shop, so my spend didn’t end there. I also sneaked a couple of other things into my basket.

A bundle of 8 perfectly matched fat quarters for my second, hopefully less novice baby quilt. In a nod to girly-girlness, without straying to the weak-insipid colours of generic babygirlthings. More of that in time.

Is this guy too sinister for baby things? I find him a little spooky. In a totally excellent way, of course. I might have to keep him for me!

And finally, a sneaky peak to keep you going til I get some better light. This is the baby ripple that Heather made for baby p&p! I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s really rather lovely indeed:

I’ll take pictures that properly do it justice when the weather decides to co-operate. hopefully that won’t be two weeks again!

that blanket has the most delicious colors! did you follow a pattern or is it your own design? and what kind of yarn is it? it’s just beautiful!
